Hey I’m Eddie, I’m a full time stay at home Dad, I am a dad to 5 girls, 3 daughters and 2 step daughters who are 2, 5, 8, 9 and 10. During my time as the stay at home dad I started blogging to share the journey and really got into it and got myself in touch with many different things out their for Dads, its how I found the Leeds Dads on twitter.
Being a Dad of 5 girls has been an amazing experience and like most dads I always wanted and expected a son. Someone to enjoy the lad stuff with, the football, rugby, cars and boys toys and never really thought about being a dad with a daughter.
I am now a dad of 5 girls, I have 3 daughters and 2 step daughters and you know what, I wouldn’t change a thing.
For the last 2 years I have been a full time stay at home dad to my 4 girls that live with us and co parented my eldest daughter with my ex partner. I became the stay at home dad after a redundancy and my partner wanting to follow her career dream of qualifying to be a midwife so she is currently on the route through University doing her Degree.
I cam honestly say with the thoughts of having a son and the things we could do together I have never thought back on being a dad to 5 girls. I have fully embraced the girl dad thing, we play tea parties and pretend dress up, we play with dolls and do girly stuff but they also like doing other things too such as a kick about of football down the park and bike rides.
Below is a meme I recently made for my own Dad Blog and pretty much sums up the phrase of tell me your a dad of girls without saying you’re a dad of girls.
Here are a few things I love about being a Dad of Girls.
Parenting and being a Dad really does have its positives and here are just a few I love about being a Dad of Girls.
Hair styling.
Being the stay at home dad a lot of the time its down to me to get the kids ready for school and nursery on a morning, making sure they are smart and presentable, for some boys its ok with how they have their hair cut that it needs zero brushing and looks presentable as soon as they get out of bed. Girl Dads will agree that really isn’t an option with girls.
I’very become quite confident over the years at styling my daughters hair such as if they tell me so and so in their class had a plait in their hair yesterday can I have one it would be an answer of “of course you can princess” or if they ask for pigtails then that isn’t a problem either. I’m no where near as confident or as good with their hair as mum can be but I do alright.
I find it quite fun and a chance to bond with my kids, while doing their hair we have a natter and a chat about anything really, school, friends and anything they want to chat about, a bit like a dads salon.
One place I found that was really useful and would be useful to other dads is these guys, the Leeds Dads. Their Dads Hairstyling Salon at 10am on Saturdays is wicked for Dads of Girls and id definitely recommend you check them out.
Their Sense of Humour.
I’d like to think of myself as a fun and funny dad, I love my puns and dad jokes, even if it may be embarrassing for my girls at times. But I like how their sense of humour has grown over the years, they make up their own jokes or tell me jokes they have heard at school as they know I’ll like it. I’m quite sarcastic too and they’ve picked up on this also, they have me and mum in stitches at times.
Toys and Playing.
I really have fully taken advantage of being the girl dad, getting involved with a barbie fashion show or a tea party with their teddies and soft toys. Doing the girly thing with them, they love it and really is a great way for a Dad to Bond with his Daughters, it may not be something to chat with the lads about down the pub though, depending how embarrassed you may become and how much stick you’ll get. If it doesn’t bother you like me, relish in the fact you are a proud dad of girls with the lads.
Pride being a Dad of Girls.
I’m immensely proud and privileged to be a dad to girls. I get to watch them grow and mature, be a role model for them in their lives and let them see how a real man should be and an example for them to show how a woman should be treated when they are adults and hopefully choose that great guy to spend their lives with and begin a family with.
Sometimes I find myself watching my kids and think of how lucky I am and how the heck I created something so wonderful and beautiful.
I hope you enjoyed this post, if you are a Dad with a daughter or daughters, leave a comment below what you love to do the most with your daughter/s and what you love the most about being a Dad of a Daughter/s.
