Today, in partnership with Coram Parent Champions, Leeds Dads were honoured to be invited to a video call in with Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge where she spent some time learning about the importance of parent-powered initiatives like us, about our services, and the impact that COVID-19 is having on families across the country.
During the call, The Duchess thanked us for our work, saying:
“A huge well done to all of you, I know there’s a big team of you out there in communities across the country. Both William and I hear about how vital these relationships are to families – they’re a real lifeline. So to you and your army of volunteers out there, a huge well done. I, like you, would love to see peer-to-peer support more embedded and celebrated in communities and society as a whole.”
It’s wonderful to get such recognition for the way we use our time, experience, and knowledge to support other parents and families. We work hard to build trusted relationships and provide a range of support, from practical advice and emotional support to assistance navigating public services.
Leeds Dads Founder Errol Murray said ‘It was great to hear how the Duchess of Cambridge saw the value of peer support, and how it had helped people throughout the pandemic. Whether helping parents to take care of their families, or just being a listening ear. I hope she is able to give peer support the recognition that it needs.’
As part of our ongoing work to support Dads in our community, today we launched a Facebook Group, complete with Learning Units which provide information for Dads on being a vital part of their family. We aim to provide a safe space for those identifying as Dads to come together, make friends, listen, empathise, and support each other. Join now!
