Back in September 2020, Leeds Dads were honoured to be invited to a meeting with HRH Catherine, Princess of Wales where she learned about our work and gave us some wonderful feedback on how we continued to support Dads during the pandemic.

2 years on and she returned to Leeds for the launch of The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood’s ‘Shaping Us’ campaign.

“Our brains develop more in our first 5 years than at any other time. Experiences then shape the rest of our lives. So any campaign supporting child development is crucial for children – and for the whole of society.”
HRH Catherine, Princess of Wales

Princess Catherine met with early years advocates like Child Friendly Leeds, Baby Week Leeds, Leeds Rhinos Foundation, Leeds Libraries and West Yorkshire Police, plus of course Leeds Dads.

What Leeds is doing in general, what the city is doing is really extraordinary. Actually, you are leading the way and putting children and young people at the heart of the city and community here. It’s really impressive to hear.

During her visit, The Princess of Wales enjoyed a tour of the market and spoke to traders and members of the public about early childhood. Leeds Dads founder Errol Murray also spoke to Sangeeta Lal at ITV News about the difference HRH Princess Catherine’s support can make to shine a light on how essential it is for parents to engage with their children during the pre-school years.
